Most of the content of Dragon Age Central has been developer posts to the official Dragon Age forums, first opened in May 2004. But all things must come to an end, and these forums were shut down on 2nd November 2009, the day before the game’s release in North America.

Since I haven’t had time to add much other content to the site for most of 2009, I’ve decided to also shut down Dragon Age Central as it was, leaving it here as an archive.

The new Dragon Age Central is now a much simpler (and fully automated) website dedicated to making developer posts to the new official forum (on Bioware’s social site) easier to find and search through.

It’s been interesting running this site, and in a way I’ll miss it... but hopefully I’ll be too busy finally playing the actual game to care :)

BioWare writer peeps, who wrote this? Huge props. Huuuuge props.

Jennifer wrote the lines you hear in the video. She doesn't come here anymore because you all scared her away. Meanies.

I guess I'll try to go two-for-two today...

Is Wynne voiced by actress and singer Susan Boyd Joyce?

You guys are on a roll today. Yes.

Haha! I see it! Its fluffy and cute. Aren't nugs subterranean?

Edit: I muted and fast forwarded. . . I be good ;x

That's not a nug... I'm not sure what it is, but it's definitely not a nug.

Nugs are subterranean, yes.

Edit: Craig assures me that it is a giant rat. He says they grow them big in the alienage.

Nothing says Zevran like Phil Collins. Womp womp.

I have to apologize for that. We were brainstorming names for the achievements and I suggested "Easy Lover" because the song just popped into my head. Much giggling ensued and I didn't think they'd use it, but they did so...

Have there been cases of mages of the circle getting involved with templars?

That's like asking if there are cases of prison wardens getting involved with prisoners, or CEOs getting involved with their secretaries. Or bakers being involved with baked goods. The Circle and the templars have had a very, very long history. What do you think?

Having your games always recruit from the world at large seems a bit more strange to me in this context than it did in say, JE or Baldur's gate.

There are reasons for this, reasons which will be made clear once you play the game.

Did Sten just beat his wife's brains out with a meat tenderizer? Intense.

Sten's an intense kinda guy. In fact, you can spell his name using the letters in the word "intense". Ooooh.

Sheryl I do not mean it in a negative way, I am just considering it with the same survival / self preservation instinct anyone else would when faced with an opportunity to make their state of health better.

On some level people grow attached to the characters they create to pursue a campaign. If you knew of something that will improve the overall well being of your character will you not try it??

And I'm simply saying that if you wish to roleplay it this way, you may. You asked if it could be done. The game doesn't give you that option, because it's impossible to offer the player each and every conceivable choice. But we don't say that you didn't do that.

If you want to imagine that your PC became immortal, sure, why not? If you want to imagine that he not only became immortal, but slipped through a tear in reality and ended up in Mass Effect as Harold Shepard, Specter Extraordinaire, you can do that too.

Some people have brought up a good point...

What about mixing the ashes of Andraste and consuming it on the spot to help cleanse the Grey Warden of this fatal illness?

Can it be done?

If it makes you happy to imagine that your PC did this, go nuts.

Perhaps I have misunderstood, it was in Duncan's Codex entry that every grey warden is fated. Also you have the trailer with the Grey warden going to die...

Well, yes, eventually, every Grey Warden will die, and most of them elect to die in the manner elaborated on in the codex entry. It's traditional. But like bashern7 said, everyone dies, not just Grey Wardens. So whether you like it or not, your PC is going to die some day.

Why cant they just give us a straight game?

Why do they have to add a bitter aftertaste?

What makes you think this is part of the game? You are overreacting.

Sten sounds familiar. Zomg it's killing me, but I can't place the voice.

liam neeson?
Let's hope! I may have to make room for Sten in my party he seems intresting.

It's not Liam Neeson.
