Most of the content of Dragon Age Central has been developer posts to the official Dragon Age forums, first opened in May 2004. But all things must come to an end, and these forums were shut down on 2nd November 2009, the day before the game’s release in North America.
Since I haven’t had time to add much other content to the site for most of 2009, I’ve decided to also shut down Dragon Age Central as it was, leaving it here as an archive.
The new Dragon Age Central is now a much simpler (and fully automated) website dedicated to making developer posts to the new official forum (on Bioware’s social site) easier to find and search through.
It’s been interesting running this site, and in a way I’ll miss it... but hopefully I’ll be too busy finally playing the actual game to care :)

Thread: Morrigan in a bikini [+6]
Date: Friday, 05 June 2009 03:45PM
Both male and female models have similar undergarments should their clothing be removed (something I imagine will disappear via modding less than a week after release). It's not medieval in style, no, but looking at the underclothes that were worn in that period they would look very... strange... to the modern view. Downright puritan, in fact.
I get that some people get perturbed by anything that doesn't align exactly with our own medieval past, but as has been mentioned before we're not going for a medieval simulator any more with the underwear than with the weapon sizes. The alternative would have been to go completely nude, of course, but we didn't want to do that. So this is where we settled. Morrigan's main outfit is fairly unique to her, as has been mentioned. Most other women in the game are much more modestly attired, as per the cultural norm, and as Bruce said you can always switch Morrigan into another outfit if you prefer. |

There are grenade-like items (acid flasks, fire bombs) that can be thrown but there are no weapons that can be thrown. There are ranged weapons (including a staff for the mage)if you are the type of player who likes to play as a ranged fighter. And, Alistair makes a great meat-shield. |

Morrigan's outfit was designed to fit her backstory. When you meet her it will be apparent why she is dressed the way she is. All of the Followers you acquire in Dragon Age Origins are fully customizable, so if you want her in something else, you are free to haver her wear another set of robes or armor. |

Thread: Obsessed about dual-wielding [+0]
Date: Thursday, 04 June 2009 03:43PM
You can dual wield any two weapons as long as:
- They are usable with one hand. So maces, axes, daggers, swords, yes. Mauls, two-handed swords, battle axes, no. - You meet the necessary strength requirements to wield the weapon one handed. - You meet the necessary skills to wield 2 of certain objects. Anyone can wield a mace + dagger. Wielding 2 maces is a skill. - Keep in mind there is a difference between using 2 weapons and wielding them well. There are skills that you may want to take to fight better with 2 weapons at once. |

No. People in Ferelden don't wear earrings for fear of attracting magpies. |

You're right. There were design criteria like * intuitive * easy to use * not timeconsuming * provide good information to the player * minimize tedious management tasks * support a large number of different items Realism, on the other hand, was not an objective to the system. |

Thread: Ciggarets? [+1]
Date: Saturday, 30 May 2009 05:05AM
It has nothing to do with any real word pro or anti smoking anything. Tobacco or other smokeables are not a part of the Dragon Age: Origins world.
Since this has been asked and answered, it gets closed to avoid more silliness. LOCKDOWN! |

No. No smoking in Dragon Age: Origins.
Well.... corpses, buildings and so forth, yes, but not the sort you stupidly put in your face. |

Thread: the Mabari War Dogs war paint. [+1]
Date: Friday, 29 May 2009 08:48PM
No. Kaddis is one of the upgrade slots for the dog, similar to armor or weapons for the other party members. (Dog needs toys too, when you're passing out shiny new swords and stuff to everyone else.) Maybe you prefer to see your party members naked rather than armored, but we don't give you a bonus for that either. |

There are certainly stores and merchants to buy and sell goods with. There is also a crafting system that lets you create things like traps, poisons and potions.
There aren't things like farming or fishing as they don't fit in the game. |

Date: Friday, 29 May 2009 02:48PM And because you could mathematically carry that ammount of equipment, obviously this means you will, yes? It seems to me that it's a problem because you choose to make it a problem. |

The "paint" (which is called kaddis and helps distinguish teh dogs and their allies from opponents) is optional, but it does contain some bonuses.
