Most of the content of Dragon Age Central has been developer posts to the official Dragon Age forums, first opened in May 2004. But all things must come to an end, and these forums were shut down on 2nd November 2009, the day before the game’s release in North America.
Since I haven’t had time to add much other content to the site for most of 2009, I’ve decided to also shut down Dragon Age Central as it was, leaving it here as an archive.
The new Dragon Age Central is now a much simpler (and fully automated) website dedicated to making developer posts to the new official forum (on Bioware’s social site) easier to find and search through.
It’s been interesting running this site, and in a way I’ll miss it... but hopefully I’ll be too busy finally playing the actual game to care :)

Thread: Obsessed about dual-wielding [+0]
Date: Thursday, 04 June 2009 03:43PM
You can dual wield any two weapons as long as:
- They are usable with one hand. So maces, axes, daggers, swords, yes. Mauls, two-handed swords, battle axes, no. - You meet the necessary strength requirements to wield the weapon one handed. - You meet the necessary skills to wield 2 of certain objects. Anyone can wield a mace + dagger. Wielding 2 maces is a skill. - Keep in mind there is a difference between using 2 weapons and wielding them well. There are skills that you may want to take to fight better with 2 weapons at once. |

Thread: How customizable will the Origin Characters be? [+2]
Date: Wednesday, 03 June 2009 07:25PM
Kind of right, but also completely backwards. You start off with a generic human male PC. You can now choose to be female if you prefer. You then choose the race. If you choose dwarf or elf, the model changes accordingly. You can choose to remain human as well. You then choose the class of the character you want to be (if you have chosen to be a dwarf, you cannot be a mage). You then choose your background based on the preceding choices. So mages choose the mage origins. Dwarves choose noble or commoner. Elves choose Dalish or city. Humans who are not mages are nobles. After you have made all those choices, you then customize your character so she/he looks like you want them to. We'll have more details on customizing in the future, but that should give you a pretty good outline. |

Do not confuse "customize" with "origins".
There are 6 origins stories. They can all be played as either a male or female PC. They do not "customize" except that you choose your gender and class (and possibly race). You DO customize your characters face with the most customizable character creator we have ever made. |

There is far a better chance of seeing a Guitar-playing Zombie Kitten Origin than a Qunari Origin. |

Thread: Can the player ignore the storyline? [+7]
Date: Friday, 29 May 2009 02:21AM Then let me state unequivocably: you can play a good, decent person who does their best to be a hero. I have said this before. Being a hero may not be the easiest choice, but it is possible. Saying that you must make sacrifices to achieve your goals does not mean that you are forced to stab your friends repeatedly with your sword while you cackle evilly -- but it does mean that not everything you do is going to come effortlessly and without a little pain in some form. If that's what you are seeking, then perhaps getting a heads-up that this is a game that involves occasionally making some harsh, bloody choices is not a bad idea. |

Thread: Origin - affect on whole game question [+1]
Date: Tuesday, 26 May 2009 04:37PM
The impact will vary -- often it's just slightly different dialogue, at other times you're looking at completely divergent experiences compared to other origins. But, yes, the differences are present throughout the entire game.

I'm partial to female characters in general, so, that stays the same when talking Dragon Age. I have, however, played through the Origins several times with both genders and there are differences ... so in that case, play the game TWELVE times!

I change my vote. My vote is for playing the game 6 times.

We've all playtested the human noble the most. After the eleven billionth time you've run through it, you start to think, "Hey, all that squalor in the alienage is starting to look pretty sweet about now..." |
