I'm glad you liked the book overall, but I wanted to say something on this particular point of yours. The relationship wasn't put in just to add something controversial, as you put it -- I don't think gay characters need to be added only when it's vital to the story. That's just who they are: they're strong men and warriors, and yet still gay. The point as it applied to all of the Grey Wardens is that they were all outsiders of one sort or another, Julien and Nicolas no less than the others.

Just had to mention that.
