Most of the content of Dragon Age Central has been developer posts to the official Dragon Age forums, first opened in May 2004. But all things must come to an end, and these forums were shut down on 2nd November 2009, the day before the game’s release in North America.

Since I haven’t had time to add much other content to the site for most of 2009, I’ve decided to also shut down Dragon Age Central as it was, leaving it here as an archive.

The new Dragon Age Central is now a much simpler (and fully automated) website dedicated to making developer posts to the new official forum (on Bioware’s social site) easier to find and search through.

It’s been interesting running this site, and in a way I’ll miss it... but hopefully I’ll be too busy finally playing the actual game to care :)

Title: Free Game Competition Results

The results are in for our competition to win a copy of Dragon Age: Origins; Digital Deluxe edition!

First I’d like to thank everyone who entered. There was a lot of creativity shown from clear fans of the game. Before we get to our winners, honourable mentions go to:

aesoppd’s well-crafted sacred-ashes-based comic , perfectly re-interpreting character expressions for humerous effect.
Xiphias’s funny poem that takes to task the attitudes of players.
Maria_Caliban’s take on alienage life in her dark short story .

But 3 entries in particular really stood out for me, making them our well-deserved winners:

MoL0toW’s dark but inspiring flash story book , capturing a great sense of what it means to be Dalish in Thedas, aided by beautiful artwork.
Proviant’s mind-boggling 1000 character faces creation; conceptually original and impressing with the sheer amount of work that must have gone into it.
doctorofdarkness’s compelling fanfiction , superbly written, evoking the darkness, lore and politics of Thedas through great characterization and a plot with a sinistre but satisfying ending.

I’ll be contacting the winners by email; let me know if you don’t hear from me soon.

As for everyone else, don’t forget that whilst you may not have won a free copy of the game, release day is fast approaching and you may want to get your pre-orders in! Direct2Drive have a pre-order bonus of a Dalish Ring (increased effectiveness of healing effects, subtract damage from darkspawn attacks, increase combat health regeneration), which is available on both the DDE and the normal edition (also available in the UK).

I just wanted to say, on the 1000 characters faces, where you said a lot of work must have gone into it...well there is a program that creates these..all you do is put the files in a folder...sooo..not hard..lik I said, I have one on my wall at home I made for my wife.

I appreciated the 1000 faces could have been automated, but even to automate downloading the 1000 faces would have taken time and effort. But mostly the prize was awarded for the originality and success of the concept.

Thanks to the kind folks over at Direct2Drive, I have 3 copies of Dragon Age: Origins (Digital Deluxe Edition) to give away in a competition!

All you have to do for a chance to win one is post some original Dragon Age-related content to this website. You’ll need to create an account first if you haven’t got one already. You might post a screenshot of your Dragon Age character (as created in the recently released character creator), some fan fiction set in Thedas, a funny captioned screenshot... use your imagination.

Entries must be posted before 12pm GMT on Monday 19th October 2009. They must be suitable for all viewers - think ‘rated PG’. To be eligible to win you must be age 18+ and reside in the US, Canada, UK, or EU.

On Monday 19th I’ll pick my favourite 3 submissions and announce the winners. Winners will be contacted via the email address associated with your dragonagecentral account.

Well I tried to upload the video both as an mpeg and wmv files and I got the response that neither was supported...size ranged from 20-60mb, dunno what I’m doing wrong and it most likely is me. Anyway some alternate routes to share even if it doesn’t get uploaded in time for a second entry.

The upload help page describes the supported formats. If your submission is just text, just copy/paste the text and upload that. If it’s a combination of text and pictures, you can email it to me at sendu@sendu.me.uk

Title: Social site and Character Creator available

Bioware released their new social site today. Once you’ve logged in with your official forum username and password and created a social account, you’ll be able to download the Character Creator part of the PC game.

This will allow you to try out making characters, which can then be imported into the full-(PC-only)-game on its release in November.

The game has been available for pre-order for some time now, but with the release drawing nearer I’ve now added a page to this website with preorder links for the game. You can also find other Dragon Age-related products for sale there.

The release date has been pushed back a little over 2 weeks from October 20th (all platforms) to November 3rd in North America and November 6th in Europe on the Xbox 360 and PC. The PLAYSTATION3 version will follow later in November.
