You'll be happy to know that, in addition to a couple of very dedicated and meticulous editors, there are a couple of us in QA who pointed out spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors, as well as capitalization inconsistencies in the dialogue.

We do have a spelling check in the DA editor, actually. Sometimes we forget to use it, of course -- and in those cases we have an editor who goes through all the dialogue to check. But they aren't going to catch every single thing no matter how many passes they make, especially the stuff that an electronic checker simply can't pick up on. So some is always going to slip through.
Every writer is always going to have their particular grammar quirks. Mine is passive voice. My editor at Tor laughs it off as my being Canadian, but I'm not quite sure what that means. Just so there's no mistake, either: the editors at Bioware and the editors at Tor (for the novel) are entirely different people. I wish we'd had more time to edit the novel -- the copy editor had to start editing the version before I had completed my own editing pass, and I think there were some errors caused by the merging of the two versions, for instance. I suspect their editors feel the exact same way. |
