As someone pointed out, we don't create games to address social issues. We don't, for instance, sit around and identify which social and/or religious minorities we feel are under-represented and design characters to fit into those categories. Maybe someone thinks we should be doing that, but quite frankly I don't think the result would be what you're picturing in your head.

I don't really see a problem with someone making their decision to buy a game based on the presence of a particular element -- whether it be a gay romance or otherwise. Obviously someone has to be interested in the type of game DAO is to begin with in order to even consider it, but the "element X" that pushes them over the edge into actually being interested/excited in it is a personal one. Certainly there are things I've seen people say which make them excited or which turn them off completely which I'd consider a lot more frivolous -- and, really, when it comes to the internet people are going to overstate their opinion as a matter of course. Hyperbole is the language that we use here, so being surprised when someone states an opinion in a thread dedicated to a single topic, out of context, strikes me as a bit unnecessary.

At any rate, I think it's incumbent on those who like certain trends to encourage them. I do it, myself. I've supported the odd game with my money because it was something I wanted to see more of -- especially if I thought it was a niche product that needed that vote of support. I'd be careful about demanding that products be made to cater to your particular worldview, however, or that we should make it our sole priority to provide novelty to those with jaded sensibilities. I think you'd be surprised to realize how little weight that sort of argument actually carries.

I'd also be careful about making broad assumptions about the people that make games, or assuming that who we are personally must be the entirety of what we could or what we would want to create. And I'll leave it at that.

after reading through this thread i was actually building up a coherant, civil response to your posts
But instead you decided to resort to insults?

If you can't come up with a coherant, civil response then don't post anything. That applies to everyone, here. If you can't contribute something civil, then not only will this discussion be ended but you won't be able to participate on any discussion on this forum as you'll be banned. Feel free to argue, but the law of the land says you will do it respectfully. Last warning.

Yes, unfortunately it seems this thread needs to be shut down. If the topic can't be discussed without veering into religious territory or devolving into insults and hurt feelings, then it can't be discussed here -- and it seems it can't.

If the topic starts up again, please keep in mind that you should keep things civil even if you disagree with someone else's position, and that discussions about the nature of homosexuality or any other such contentious topics don't really belong on the Dragon Age forum. Thanks!
